Slovenia- Türkiye relations

Slovenia- Türkiye relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Türkiye were established in 1992, shortly after Slovenia gained its independence. Since then, the two countries have maintained and continuously strengthened friendly, constructive, and mutually beneficial relations founded on respect, shared values, and a joint commitment to regional peace, stability and cooperation.

Slovenia’s accession to the European Union and NATO in 2004 further enhanced bilateral dialogue and opened new avenues for collaboration within the wider Europe-Atlantic framework. The Strategic Partnership confirmed in 2011 laid the ground for an even more ambitious relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Economic cooperation stands as one of the main pillars of Slovenia–Türkiye relations as reaffirmed by the 9th Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting held on 14 January 2025 in Ankara, together with various bilateral agreements signed at this occasion. Cooperation which has seen a steady increase in trade volume and mutual investments covers several key sectors, including logistics, automotive, chemicals, energy, defence industry, information and communication technologies as well as tourism. Slovenian companies are actively participating in the Turkish market, while Turkish businesses are increasingly discovering investment opportunities in Slovenia.

Slovenia regards Türkiye as an important partner in Southeast Europe, whereas Türkiye sees Slovenia as a strategic and supportive ally within the European Union and Central Europe. Both countries, as NATO members, share common goals in advancing peace, security, and prosperity across the broader Euro-Atlantic region.

Cultural, academic, and people-to-people exchanges represent another strong dimension of bilateral relations. Joint initiatives such as gastronomy events, art exhibitions, academic cooperation, and tourism promotion play a vital role in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of both nations. Cultural diplomacy remains a cornerstone in strengthening dialogue and long-term partnership.

Today, Slovenia and Türkiye continue to nurture a dynamic and forward-looking strategic partnership, deepening cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields. Together, they are committed to promoting stability, sustainable development, and closer ties in bilateral as well as regional frameworks.
